It affects those of us with Windows Vista and Windows 7 systems.

The Sidebar feature ( the little icons/gadgets that would load up on the right side of the screen that one can customize) have been found to have some security vulnerabilities.

they could allow an attacker to access your system via these gadgets.

Microsoft is recommending you disable the Sidebar right away.

You can read about it and apply the FIX in this Microsoft link. It has been verified and is true:

they show a Fix IT For Me link #50906 that will disable this.

 

You click on it, then click RUN and continue through the prompts then RESTART your computer.

you can also search online you will find lots of tech sites talking about this.

The deadline is only a couple of days away...you've probably heard on the news and via emails and other methods about the DNS Charger malware that the FBI reported on. The infection would redirect your computer browser to websites that look legitimate but are not.

To check if your computer is infected you can click on this linkhttp://www.dns-ok.us/  and if you see GREEN then you're fine!

Otherwise you will need ot have someone check your computer and remove the infection.  Also check with your Internet Service Provider for assistance.

I'm posting something that I read a while back in a computer magazine. Since it's summertime and many are away traveling. When you get back home and turn on your PC that has been off for over a week...stop and give your antivirus program a chance to do its updates----BEFORE you quickly log into your email.

Virus are created daily, if the computer hasn't been on for days then it cannot protect you from any new viruses out there because it has not updated itself with the latest tools.   Be patient and let the virus protection grab the latest definitions, then open your email. This way if something suspicious is in your email the virus protection will have a chance to identify it and neutralize it since it has the latest updates!

Microsoft WORD-different ways to select text

Instead of highlighting and dragging text to edit it...here's some other options:

Selecting text

Alternative ways to select text without having to left click, hold and drag for selection.

·         To select a word, double-click the left mouse button on the word you wish to select.

·         To select a sentence, hold down CTRL and single-click the left mouse button on the sentence.

·         To select a line of text, position the arrow inside the left margin along the line you wish to select. Then single click and the line will be selected. (Make sure you're in Print Layout View)

·         To select a paragraph, double-click the left mouse button while it is again positioned on the left margin area of your document.

·         To select the entire document, hold down CTRL +A keys or triple-click while it is positioned on the left margin area of your document.

Extract a Picture from Microsoft WORD document

Someone sends you a picture that is inserted into Microsoft WORD and you want to get it out?

This is what you do:
open up that document
left click once on the picture to select it (size handles appear around it)
then do copy by using keyboard shortcut  CTRL + C
then open up PAINT program(its available in all Windows pcs)
once opened press CTRL + V
the picture will show up
FILE > SAVE AS and make sure the type is jpg
