On my new Toshiba Satellite L955 Windows 8 laptop I would life the lid and it would
immediately start up Windows. This is fine if I had put it to sleep and was coming back. However after going through the shutdown process it would still do this.
I figured there was some tweak I needed to make in the Power Option area of the control panel. After several frustrating attempts I decided to call Toshiba and ask them.
The first tech told me he'd never heard of this problem...we got disconnected so I called back. The second tech told me to hold down the SHIFT key while I shutdown the computer and it will stay powered off. Apparently if you just go through the process of shutting down the pc as we're used to doing..it is actually putting it to SLEEP even though I was not making that selection.
Go figure!
